Help When Seeking Asylum

Even when your case is very compelling, an application for asylum is a great challenge. With so many difficulties and potential for mistakes, you need a lawyer’s help from the beginning. Applicants with attorneys are more likely to be approved than those without.

Our experienced attorney at the Law Offices of Rafael Pazmino, LLC, can help with this process. The process may take a long time. No guarantees are possible. However, to have strength on your side, work with an experienced, trusted immigration lawyer.

What Is Asylum And How Can You Get Asylum?

According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), “Refugee status or asylum may be granted to people who have been persecuted or fear they will be persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, and/or membership in a particular social group or political opinion.”

This government agency defines refugees as people “outside of their country who are unable or unwilling to return home because they fear serious harm.” People from any country may apply for asylum regardless of their current immigration status.

If the U.S. grants you asylum, you may work in the U.S. immediately. After living in the U.S. for a year with refugee status, you may apply for adjustment of your status to become a lawful permanent resident (LPR) with a green card. A few years later, you may qualify to apply for U.S. citizenship.
